Transformative projects for the city
Alongside the strategic goals, the Cultural Strategy identifies a series of Big Ideas — transformative projects and initiatives that have the potential to change the trajectory of cultural life in Coventry.
Develop a year-round programme of festivals and cultural events that celebrate Coventry's diversity, attract visitors, and provide platforms for local and international artists. From music and food to literature and digital art, Coventry will become known as a festival city.
Establish dedicated creative quarters in the city centre and surrounding neighbourhoods — affordable workspace, studios, galleries and performance spaces for artists and creative businesses. These quarters will become magnets for talent and investment.
Create a dedicated programme of investment in young people's creativity, from schools and colleges to informal settings, ensuring that Coventry's youngest residents are creators and leaders, not just audiences.
Harness digital technology to democratise access to culture, create new forms of artistic expression, and connect Coventry's cultural offer to national and global audiences. From virtual galleries to interactive public art, the digital realm will become a key cultural space.
Pioneer new models for using culture to improve health and wellbeing outcomes, working in partnership with the NHS, social care providers and community organisations. Art on prescription, creative therapy and participatory arts programmes will become mainstream.
Big ideas require bold action. These initiatives will be developed in partnership with cultural organisations, businesses, communities and funders over the lifetime of the strategy.
